Whether you're a teenager or an adult, if you've never had an actual driver's license before, then you'll first have to get a learners permit. In Burlington, North Carolina, there are certain rules that you must follow when driving with a learners permit. If you are under 18, do keep in mind that you'll have to start the process of getting your driver's license by first getting a limited learners permit.
Another requirement for those who are under 18 is the successful completion of a Driver's Ed course. This course needs to include at least 30 hours of instruction as well as six hours of behind-the-wheel training. You can start the process to getting your learners permit in the 27215 area when you turn 15. You will have to go to the DMV office and provide several forms of identification,, including:
- Verification of social security number
- Certification from your Driver's Ed course
- Birth certificate
- School transcript that has been signed by an official school employee
- Application form signed by a guardian
You will also have to pass a written test and pay a $15 fee.
It's imperative that you understand the rules and restrictions when driving with a learners permit. For starters, you cannot drive without a parent or guardian, or in the least, an adult who has been granted permission to ride with you. The person riding with you must have had a drivers license for at least five years. This person must at all times be in the front passenger seat.
During the first six months, you can drive from 5AM to 9PM (no exceptions). You cannot use a mobile phone for any purpose except during an emergency, and all passengers must wear a seat belt. If you have a young child riding with you, he or she must be in a proper child safety seat.
You must also have car insurance on the car you are driving. To learn more about purchasing an insurance policy, contact one of our highly-trained insurance agents today.
